While on a recent summer vacation in Mexico with his family, our founder's 10 year old son climbed on top of his back in the swimming pool and shouted "go slave turtle!" He quickly complied by swimming around the pool (and underwater) with his son clinging to his back. This then became the theme for the rest of the vacation each time they entered the swimming pool.
After numerous conversations over dinner during the trip, the family decided that this would be an excellent way for the children to draw attention to the ridiculousness of racism throughout history. Specifically, by depicting a silly turtle in classic scenes of discrimination and slavery, children might further break down the walls of racism. Only later did it also seem appropriate to name our software company "Slave Turtle"
